At the end of every year, coaches go through all types of analysis on how the season progressed. We think through what went wrong, what went well, and possible changes for next year. While I have made the announcement that I will not be returning as Herron’s head coach, I do often think of the future of Herron baseball.
I do hope that all returning players will take up the desire to improve. Hit the batting cages any time you can or throw with someone as much as possible with a goal of improving your arm strength. Any player wanting help in devising a workout plan should ask me and I would be happy to help.
What went wrong? Obviously, the weather hurt us more this year than it has in past years. I tried really hard to put together a calendar at the beginning of the year that all parents could count on not changing. Well, it seemed like our off days were perfect weather days and our practice days got canceled more often than not. It was frustrating on trying to keep our skills improving. We had a 4 game win streak that fell flat due to a stretch of days that were rained out and we had trouble getting back into a game after several days off.
What went well? We had several players that improved immensely throughout this year. It was great to see the individual improvement. We also had a lot of fun together this year. If you didn’t smile at our Senior Night (mainly the jokes about how old I am) then you should check your sense of humor! It was fun.
With all of that, I want to thank all parents for allowing your player to be part of this year. I will never forget this team and it was an honor to be your coach.
