After being shutout Tuesday on Senior Night, the Achaeans felt like they had something to prove. Saturday evening in the first round of the City Tournament, Herron took on Purdue Polytech. After struggling the first 12 minutes of the game, Coach Jim Durrett made some changes to his lineup to proved to cause a spark. Goalie Ethan Goodwin came up with a save and threw it up the right side to Freshman midfielder, Jack Wagner. Wagner beat one defender and slid a pass down the line past another to Sophomore, Roarke Annarino. Annarino cut in towards the goal which made tech’s center defenseman come over to help. Annarino saw Junior striker, Gabe Pawlowski, streaking down the middle and fed him a beautiful ball for the tap in 1-0 lead with 21 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Achaeans would score early in the 2nd half on a shot from the mark by Senior, Mason Litvan. Wagner was brought down in the box on an attempted cross from the leftside that would lead to Litvan’s first goal of the season. Senior, Jaden House, would score the final goal of the evening off a corner kick by Junior, Jahir Mancia Guajaca. House would head the ball directly down and it would then bounce over a defender and into the top of the goal. Achaeans advance into the 2nd round of the city tournament and face Covenant Christian on Monday evening at 5:00 PM at Bishop Chatard High School.
